Happy Birthday John

Marie and I want to wish John a Happy Birthday! In the tradition of Marie's favorite show the Cake Boss. We designed and made this cake especially for him!

Claire in her letter jacket

Claire came home with her jacket today so I took some pics so you could all see. Sounds like the kids trip to Boston was fun. Laura the Panama pics are very nice. Tonight we are going to celebrate Marie's 9th birthday!

Knee sugery

I am 3 days post surgery and getting more mobile. Marie has been a great help! Today I got to take off the bandage and shower. I have been doing my exercises and taking pain meds. My favorite part of ther day is pictured here. When I get to circulate ice water around my knee.

Lazy Sunday

Hi Everyone! This weekend, I got Mom and Dad to go to free yoga at Barton Springs Pool and then go for a swim. I went to see Wicked with a Laura, Mary Lou, and Marie. Then we had chicken and brisket that Dad smoked with some neighbors and friends. It continues to be too hot here in Austin.

Today, we stopped by Marie's birthday party at an art studio. They decorated mirrors with big wooden frames. Some were prettier than others. The studio was nice, I would like to go back myself and create mosaics on something for the kitchen or garden.

Tomorrow, Claire starts her sophomore year of high school. Dad will be in Memphis for the week, so you can call him in the evenings, when he might be bored. Laura is in Austin until August 28.

Caterpillar Infestation

Here are the caterpillars I took off of our dill plant on Thursday. They will become Black Swallowtail Butterflies. There are 16 of them living in this mason jar. After this picture was taken, I separated some of the larger ones into another jar, because they seem close to creating cocoons. We tried to feed them carrot greens, but they definitely prefer the dill. They are getting fat really fast. I will put another picture up soon. My only worry is that they will be emerging while we are in Block Island. We will have to let Marie take them.
