New Nest

Another nest in my bougainvillea again this year.  I actually scared one trying to take a picture and it hopped out.  I had to run through my apartment and catch it.  Then I carried it back through my apartment and returned it to the hanging basket.  It was traumatic for everyone.

I went to water my bougainvillea tonight and a bird flew out.  It occurred to me there might be a nest, so I took it down to snap these pictures.  I hope the birds weren't too disturbed and come back.

Winter Wonderland

We had 3 inches of snow last night. The birds were very demanding. I had too go out for a suet cake for my woodpecker. Hopefully I'll catch a photo tomorrow. Am trying some different settings on my camera. Shooting the birds through the windows do not make for the best pictures. Watching the Surrogate. The jury is still out on this one. It's a good night to hunker down under the blankets and keep warm. Sammy is snoozing. Now that I know how to post a photo, his may be next.

For all those lost fans, google Lost the Transmission for interesting weekly podcasts. This group has been transmitting since at least 2007. Love their insights. They are a couple in Hawaii. Can't wait to see how it is all tied together.

For those of your disappointed by the new flavors of the Necco sweethearts, do not fret. Target carries Brach's version. The traditional flavors we grew up loving.

BI 09 Katherine's Hike

Today, Katherine, Kellie, John and Jim went on a hike on the southwest corner of the island off of Dickens Farm Road. We tried to get to the trail that goes through Dicken's Farm Preserve, but there was a giant puddle across the whole road with no way around. We had a good adventure on several other hiking trails, but as you can see we retraced our steps several times. We saw several impressive hawks as we hiked through a basin area and a turtle on the main road. On one of the roads we saw the foundations of some early Block Island buildings. In the future, we hope it will be dry enough to do the hike we originally planned.
